John is a Director at the Office for Investment which is a joint unit reporting to the Prime Minister, Chancellor and Secretary of State for Business and Trade. In that role, he is the overall lead for Chinese investment into the UK including representing HM Government in the annual UK-China Investment Working Group.

John has 30 years of experience working for the UK government including 16 years in China. He first worked for the British Embassy in China in 1998 and returned from his most recent postings as HM Consul General in Shanghai and HM Trade Commissioner to China and Hong Kong in the summer of 2023.
