Dr. Aznan is a renowned Shariah scholar in Islamic capital market in South East Asia which are important for HSBC’s sukuk businesses in Malaysia and Indonesia. He is very instrumental in providing his insights and valuable experiences for the Bank in setting up its Shariah governance framework.

He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the issuance of Islamic securities and Islamic Unit Trust Schemes, Securities Commission of Malaysia. Dr Aznan played a key role in developing Islamic capital market framework in Malaysia, the biggest sukuk market in the world. He also acts as Shariah adviser to Malaysian Provident Fund, a government mandated pension fund in Malaysia.

He is a member of Shariah Advisory Boards of both Central Bank of Malaysia and Securities Commission. Dr Aznan is also one of five members of Higher Shariah Authority of Central Bank of UAE. Dr Aznan also advised HBME when it launched Shariah compliant Global Market solutions such as profit rate swap, cross currency swaps and collateralised murabaha financing solution (Shariah compliant short term financing solution alternative to repo). He also provides his expert advices on Amanah legacy portfolios. Dr Aznan resides in Selangor, Malaysia.
