Chart of the week – China’s policy ‘put’
After recently announcing new stimulus measures, China’s policymakers have yet to fill in the details on the scale of support planned. But there is clear evidence of a fundamental shift in policy thinking. As for markets, many Asian investors remain cautious on China, despite it trading at a heavy discount to both EM and global stocks. With bad news still in the price, good news could be ‘doubly good’, and we think current policy settings are calibrated as a policy ‘put’.
